Tanks for biogas in reinforced steep slopes
Biogas is one of the sources of renewable energy: it can be used for the production of electricity and heat and is obtained by the bacterial fermentation of organic residues from vegetable or animal residues.
For the production of biogas, plants are built with special digestion and storage tanks; these tanks are usually made of reinforced concrete or steel coated with molten glass and may present problems of low structural flexibility, have high construction costs and have a negative impact on the surrounding landscape.
To overcome these problems in the province of Ferrara (Italy) were made reinforced earth tanks using our Tenax Rivel system: the total facade of the reinforced earth is about 10,000 sqm and the external side is vegetated to minimize the visual impact and allow a more natural in the territory. Here below you can find a couple of videos of realization.
Another advantage of this solution is the use of materials that can removed easily and recycled at the end of the plant life: thanks to this the reinforced earth tanks have a minimal impact on the environment.
The plants created allow the production of electricity from biogas obtained from the anaerobic fermentation of biomass derived from no-food crops and livestock waste, have a power of 999 kW and serve the energy needs of 4,000 families.
