EC regulation

Guarantee of compliance with EC regulations

The CE marking is a symbol that manufacturers must affix to some types of products self-certifying its conformity (or compliance) with the essential requirements concerning its sale and use in the European Union. The CE marking is prescribed by law in order to sell a product within the European Economic Area (EEA).

The CE symbol means “Conformité Européenne”. It has to be affixed in a visible way and indelibly to a product to certify that it meets the essential requirements established from one or more EU regulations concerning security, public health, consumer protection, etc.

The CE marking implies that the natural or legal person who has affixed the marking or has had it affixed, has verified that the product, after undergoing appropriate procedures of assessment of conformity, is compliant with all the EU directives that apply to the product.

The CE marking does not identify any assumed “quality” of a product and does not guarantee it. It is simply a symbol of compliance with some technical specifications that the European Union established as common standards.
