Problem
Pyramids Hills is a development for several luxurious
villas of 500 sq m each built at an exquisite location
overlooking the Giza Pyramids.
The difference in levels in the project area
necessitated the use of reinforced earth technology as
the preferred solution in place of costly traditional
alternatives.
Solution
The use of the Keystone Compact I-Block walls
coupled with mono-oriented geogrids TENAX TT has
provided the project owners with an excellent costeffective
solution saving almost 50% when compared
to the traditional reinforced concrete walls.
The Keystone block walls also provided a pleasing
architectural feature and modern appearance to the
otherwise large bear walls that ranged from 4 to 22 m
high.
They are and are now considered the highest
reinforced earth walls in the world.
All walls were designed by TENAX in conjunction with
Prof. Dr. Mohsen Mashour (geotechnical consultants)
with the capacity to carry additional loads arising from
the road above.
Conclusion
The use of block wall reinforced earth retaining walls coupled with mono-oriented geogrids TENAX TT have
provided an economical solution with a great
architectural look.
Construction methods were greatly simplified when
compared with traditional reinforced concrete
structures which resulted in the construction of a
7800 sq m wall to be constructed in less than one
year.
A remarkable achievement considering the majority of
the walls were over 10 m high. |
