Biomat

Biomats are fiber mattresses made from straw and coconut capable of forming an excellent anti-erosion protection on not-excessively inclined slopes where a suitable underlying vegetative base capable of permitting planting already exists.

Since the biomat naturally decomposes during a biological cycle, the decomposed fibers, essentially made of cellulose and ligneous material, will act as an organic fertilizer.

Furthermore, the coconut fibers permit the retention of humidity increasing the permeability of the soil whereas the straw fibers, improving the roughness of the underlying base and hence reducing the runoff velocity of the water and retaining the soil particles.
