Impermeable banks for
canals, ponds and artificial basins
Impermeable membranes (polymeric or mineral clay)
used to seal canals, ponds, and artificial basins in general, must
be protected from both mechanical puncturing and from attack by
UV rays, and if possible, the part above water needs to be covered
by vegetation. Both these needs can be satisfied by using the TENAX
TENWEB honeycomb shaped structure, capable of retaining a sufficient
thickness of topsoil to ensure surface stability is maintained.
The cellular structure can be filled above the water line with topsoil
and, in the submerged section, with dredged gravel and/or concrete,
and can be successively covered with a TENAX ECOMAT biomat and then
hydro-seeded. |

Puncturing of the membrane cannot be allowed and therefore the
use of fixing stakes cannot be allowed. It is therefore necessary
to use a TENAX LBO SAMP reinforcing geogrid beneath the geocell
panels for the dual purpose of guaranteeing the required tensile
strength and allowing connection of the geocell walls by cable
ties or other means. This system provides a completely stable
integral structure.
The soil, confined by the honeycomb shaped structures, becomes
very resistant to distributed loads and to the puncturing activity
of concentrated loads. The structure in general permits the increase
in the bearing capacity of the soil layer in which it is placed,
offering optimal shock resistance from moving loads and therefore
efficiently safeguarding the underlying impermeable layer.
