Project description

Patras-Athina-Thessaloniki Highway.

Stabilisation of road embankment between Ag.Konstantinos and Kammena Vourla.

 

Approximately 2km of embankments along the route were reinforced and stabilized with 150,000m2 of TENAX BI-ORIENTED GEOGRIDS.

 

The use of TENAX geogrids were chosen over Polyester geogrids due to them having a much higher damage resistance than PET woven or soldered geogrids, and their ability to absorb 5x as much energy before failing especially at the junctions.

The manufacturing process of TENAX extruded geogrids results in a product made of thick transversal and longitudinal ribs and ensures for molecular chain continuity both along ribs and through the junctions.

 

The result is a more ductile and elastic geogrid that is more resistant to damage caused during installation processes.

 

Indeed, while PET woven geogrids are seriously damaged during aggregate compaction, Tenax extruded geogrids are resistant to damage even in severe conditions such as compaction of irregular shaped, crushed gravel.

The base of a road on soft subgrade will quickly deform with rutting at the surface and cause problems for movements of vehicles.

 

Closely spaced layers of TENAX geogrids considerably stiffen the road base, while TENAX geocomposites maintain the separation between the fill and the subgrade while providing positive drainage.

 

TENAX geosynthetics provide the drainage, separation and reinforcement required to stabilize the base of roads on soft subgrade.
